Power & Influence: Leadership Lessons from "12 Angry Men"
Influence others even when you lack formal authority
Understand your sources of power
Find out how effective leaders create support and loyalty
Understand why authority alone often won't get the outcomes you expect
Successful executives know that getting the results they want requires leadership skills and the ability to influence people. Leaders in almost any role, from parent to board member to CEO, can find themselves ineffective and frustrated if they become too reliant on formal authority. This session will delve into power and influence using as a "case" the classic film 12 Angry Men. It's a creative and interactive way to discover how a person can exercise leadership. Our Presenter Linda Sheidler Doyle, Ph.D. is an educator and advisor to organizations with a particular focus on leadership development. Her career includes 30 years experience at Harvard Business School (HBS), from which she retired in June, 2005.

How to Avoid "Set-Up-to-Fail Syndrome" Webinar
(Part 4 of Climbing the Ladder Series)

May 10, 2010
Aspiring Leaders | 2:00 - 3:00 EST
Executives & Managers | 3:30 - 4:30 EST
Early career managers often find themselves promoted to manage former peers—and they often find that the skills that got them the promotion in the first place are not enough—or not even the right skills—to bring success. In this session we'll talk briefly about this issue. We'll also discuss the "Set-Up-to-Fail Syndrome" which managers (at all stages!) sometimes unconsciously inflict on their subordinates. See this issue from both points of view—you as a manager and you as a subordinate.

Aspiring Leaders | 2:00 - 3:00 EST
Executives & Managers | 3:30 - 4:30 EST

We'll also discuss some specific techniques for improving outcomes for both the person giving and the person receiving feedback.
